Research and Development

The Foundation supports research and development that is to the advantage of seafarers, primarily within the areas of safety, working environment and job satisfaction according to the following:
- The Foundation shall actively promote R & D within the areas named above. The Foundation can also initiate R & D projects.
- The Foundation’s support can be directed at specific projects or used for research grants.
- The Foundation’s support can be used for the whole project or specific parts of a R & D project or employment.
- Where possible the Foundation’s support shall be long term

The following prerequisites must be met for projects:
- There must be a clear need from the seafarer’s viewpoint.
- There must be a clearly defined problem
- There must be a requirement that concrete recommendations will result from the research.
- There must be a plan for publication of the results to interested parties.

A written agreement, signed by all parties, is required for projects. The agreement should specify:
- Parties to the agreement
- Amount
- Payment plan
- Reference group (to include a representative from the Foundation)
- Reporting procedures
- Accounting
- Final report

Applications for support for R & D projects should be forwarded to the Foundation’s office.








  • 2013 Awards
    The Foundation’s support for improvements in the safety and working environment in the merchant fleet continues. We invite you to contribute to this year’s recognition programme, 2013 Awards. Submissions, in English or Swedish, should reach the Foundation by 31st October 2012.
